Who Is Cary, Anyway?
Hello. My name is Cary Scott, and I’m a freelance designer and photographer from the Washington, DC metro area — Arlington, Virginia to be exact.
I live here with my wife, Eleni and our six African Cichlids. Eleni is Greek in case you were wondering. In fact I’ve just recently survived a “Big Fat Greek Wedding,” and I have to say: that movie’s not too far off. Don’t tell my in-laws I said that.
When I’m not being forced to take shots of Ouzo by my new Greek family, I’m busy creating standards-based websites on my Mac. Speaking of Macs, I consider myself somewhat of a Mac snob and, like most designers, I’m soooo hating Microsoft. For the love of all that’s good, please make Internet Explorer work right.
In my spare time, I can be found watching movies, going to see great live music, taking photos for my photoblog or sitting at my favorite coffeehouse. I love coffee!
Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for taking the time to read this.
More about me
I’m Looking forward to…
- The Dark Knight — Christopher Nolan’s second installment of the latest incarnation of the Batman franchise hits the screen on July 18th, 2008. Check out the trailer.
Places I frequent (in the DC Metro Area)…
- Ben’s Chili Bowl — This DC landmark has been around since 1958 and is a big part of the history of the U Street Corridor. Back in it’s hay-days, Ben’s Chili Bowl has been graced by many celebrities including Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Nat King Cole, Redd Foxx, Dick Gregory, Martin Luther King Jr., and Bill Cosby who still comes by for a chili half-smoke when he is in town. There’s nothing like a late-night chili dog or chili burger after seeing a show at the 9:30 Club.
- El Pollo Rico — Out of the many Peruvian chicken spots that have popped up all over the area, El Pollo Rico has remained my favorite. The spices on these birds can’t be beat. A tip: buy a few extra yellow (mild) sauces and use them instead of ketchup on your fries. Mmmmm…
- Plaka Grill — Hands down the best Gyros in the DC area. You gotta have the Plaka Gyro — this is the only place I know of that makes REAL pork gyros with seasoned fries piled on top like you find in Greece.
- The Italian Store — By far, the best Italian subs in the DC area. I recommend “The Milano.” The pizza ain’t bad either.
- Murky Coffee — In my opinion, this is the only coffeehouse in the DC area that knows how to make espresso drinks. I frequent the Arlington location, but there’s also another spot in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. My only gripe about this place is that they’re not open late enough. I love late night joe.
Places I would frequent if they weren’t so far away
- Cafe 222 — Hands down the best brunch food I’ve ever had. I used to have an apartment above this quaint little cafe when I lived in San Diego. If you go, get the pumpkin pancakes — they’re to die for.
- Rutt’s Hut — I LOVE Rutt’s Hut hot dogs. Best hot dogs in the country, and they’re, get this… deep fried!!! I’d be in big trouble if it wasn’t 231.68 miles away. Yeah, I need to lose a pound or two… or twenty.
